She provides the oh-so-awesome zingers each episode (sometimes at the expense of the other housewives). But Jeana Keough, one of original Orange County "Housewives," says she’s ditching the cameras to focus on work.
The 52-year-old Wisconsin native and one-time Playboy Playmate, found the down real estate market challenging, so she’s saying goodbye to the cat fights (or is it cougar fights?) to focus her attention on short sales and escrow disbursements. Her exit is highlighted in Thursday’s episode.
I spoke with Jeana over the phone Monday morning. Here’s what she had to say about her departure, what she really thinks of Vicki and … the prospect of another ‘Housewives’ wedding?
Readers of our Show Tracker blog have really been vocal about their disappointment over your departure. What would you like to say to them?
I’ll be back. I’m working on some other things. So I think I’ll be back on TV shortly...
(*note: this blog was supposed to appear on BravoTV.com last week but for some reason the wrong entry was posted. Working on getting that corrected.)
The show was a lot of fun for 4 years, I have lots of great memories to take with me, made tons of friends all over the world, and I have a 5-year video of my crazy life that is being syndicated. Scott Dunlop’s little show about “Behind the Gates” has really taken on a life of its own. It has turned out very different from his dream, and more like a societal experiment in the weirdest culture ever. Can you imagine hundreds of years from now some race finding the episode of “you gold digging whore, you aren’t my friend?” What in the world will they think? It’s time to take my new found celebrity status and try to make a difference in the OC. Start small, I always say.
Why did I leave the show? Well now I need to take time to focus on my career and my family. Filming took up so much summer time, coincidentally the most lucrative time of year for real estate and it cut into my salary significantly. The recession didn’t help of course. And remember this isn’t like Desperate Housewives - I am not getting killed off or anything like that. Slade came back, so I'm not ruling anything out in regards to the future. I did feel I wasn’t being appreciated, and I am older then the other girls and we have different interests.
Gretchen enjoys the nightlife and all the newest hottest parties. After years of sadness she is ready to move ahead in her wonderful life with Slade. I wish them well in their quest for marriage, babies and the whole enchilada. Tamra and Alexis have their sweet babies, their husbands, and the gym. Lynne was doing all cuffs ahead, but struggled with moving homes twice and dealing with teen tantrums and her husband’s job slow down. This is not unlike every other American these days--just much more public. Vicki traveled extensively for fun and work all summer, and dealt with Brianna’s illness. She is still a two income family, so I imagine she doesn’t feel the pinch as bad as the others.
For me, the housewives' "reality" was just too much drama as a group, not allowing enough quality time with my family, and not enough substance in my relationship with the girls. I would go out with the girls for the evening, and come home depressed. I started seeing Rebecca, and Ben, Frankie, Trevor, Keith and Chaz--my "back-up dancers" as my boyfriend refers to them. Through them I got my happy place back again. When I am alone, I am depressed and eating and not working out. I missed my boyfriend terribly; dating a man who is geographically undesirable is very hard.
I evaluated my life and got back to basics: holding Open Houses, marketing meetings with Tom Ferry, my business coach twice weekly. I got my Vision board together with my wish list and started checking things off. Get a agent, get a writer for my book, expand my role with Duzoxin which is rapidly developing into as a premiere product in the market and helps me tremendously in getting back on track with their new "Do YOU" campaign (which by the way means lots of contests and giveaways for my fans - so be sure and see my blog for news about that at jeanakeough.blogspot.com). My Duzoxin weight loss regiment combines wonderfully with Smooth Shapes which helps gets rid of that cellulite which seems to never leave despite how much weight you lose. I'm a spokesperson for them also and highly endorse them both. Just Google to find out more about each. I had people always coming up to me saying I inspired them to lose weight, get a job in Real Estate, and that they admired my parenting, and how helpful I was in explaining short sales and loan modifications. I love public speaking and sharing my successes, so becoming a spokesperson for products that I believe in has been a natural move for me and a new part of my career.
I do not own a moving company but I should invest in one! I moved Shane from AZ to Stockton, Kara out of Berkeley and into UCLA, and then Matt out to Irvine then to AZ, then back to California, in a 3 month period. I HATE packing and my kids think only Mom can do it. As a result of dating a man who worked out of town, all my kids being busy and my girlfriends from the show were filming constantly and not having time for me, I occupied myself in other ways like taking cooking lessons from Chaz Bradley, and it is now a passion with me. I am so excited Ryan Scott from Top Chef is going to give me lesson’s this month! And Chef Chaz is helping me create a wonderful unique Thanksgiving experience. I love all my other Bravo friends from the other shows, Housewives, Top Chefs, Shear Genius, Project Runway, My life on the D List. I will always be apart of the Bravo Family, as I am a part of the Playboy family.
I am now dating a wonderful man that makes me think about myself, without feeling guilty. That forces me to slow down and enjoy life, in its simplicity. I am not sure where it will take me but it is an adventure I am ready to go on. My mother lived for us, she never bought herself anything, we were her world, we were first and she never took time for herself, I never heard her have a date night, a spa day or lunch with the girls. That created an unreal expectation I put on myself. I never felt I did enough for my kids. Being Mom and Dad and feeling guilty, made me over compensate financially. When I couldn’t give them as much as I used too, they all revolted for a few months. We are in a better place now, their opinion’s are important in making financial decisions and they like being part of the family decisions. Our vacations were to Bakersfield, and Stockton to see Shane play, and the beach and the backyard, instead of the usual Mexico and New York. I felt like I was not taking care of myself. Instead of working out, I was going to Shane’s games, Colton’s games, Kara’s boyfriend’s games, spreading my self to thin and eating the wrong foods. That has changed. Now I am working out again, eating right, taking Duzoxin and taking time for myself. I can even say no to people now, which is liberating. I never said no to anyone before.
I have only this year with my baby, Colton. He is a senior in high school, and he will most likely go to college far away. He was missing being with me and having me around. He has always been my anchor, my rock and I really abandoned him in his junior year. When he got wheels and freedom I felt he could handle the world and I didn’t need to micromanage him. I was wrong, he did several attention getting things, and point taken I stopped everything to get my life and his back on track. I was possessed with travel, work, hair, nails and TV filming.
The whole Tamra, Gretchen thing, it is their thing and they can deal with it. Tamra did apologize in the end, on E! Entertainment at the end of the season. As I have always said, if you can’t say something positive, helpful or educational, say nothing. Don’t drunk dial! Tamra and the others I am sure want me to be happy and only asked about Matt out of concern for him and curiosity if I was dating anyone special. I helped her a lot this summer with her issues with Simon, and both of them have helped me also.
As for the comment made by Vicki that I "start a lot of drama," you would have to ask her for an explanation. In watching 4 years of the show, I don’t see one incident I started but she is entitled to her opinion. In regards to her "toxic" comment, who knows in what context it was made? Editing something shot 6 months ago it is hard to say. I have very strong opinions on things and she and I are a both Type A personalities on overdrive, we will always clash but always be there for each other. All I know is we are leaving to go to New York together and looking forward to a little R & R and some fun times In the city with our New York counterparts. Getting ready to shoot with Wendy Williams, ABC news, and Andy Cohen on Thursday. I spent the day with Tammy Knickerbocker, and saw Quinn over the weekend, talked to Kimberley Bryant (from Season One) on Sunday and have emailed Lori a few times. We may not be as close as we once were but there is a bond we all share - being made a fool of on TV! No, I am just kidding Kathleen I promise! Thank you to Bravo. Lauren, Shari Levine, Kathleen French, Andy Cohen, Scott Dunlop, Jack, Pete, Greg and all our wonderful camera crew, sound crew and runners! What a fun experience and thanks for taking the ride with my family.
I have watched my family grow up on TV the last 5 years, we have made mistakes, shared our happiness, Kara’s making Varsity Volleyball, Editor of the yearbook, Valedictorian, getting into Berkeley, Shane getting into the Jucco World Series, getting drafted and starting his career with the Oakland A’s, his childhood dream, and maturing into a man, Colton growing up before our eye’s into a wonderful, helpful, kind and considerate young man, and did I mention great cook? Now he is working for a caterer, looking at colleges and playing baseball. And our misfortune’s, Matt’s very public struggles with Alcohol, Colton’s broken nose, broken hand, my issues with loan modifications that we shared with the TV world to be a part of the answer to families struggling and to be honest about issues to show that we are like everyone else, we have high’s and lows and we get back on and try again. We aren’t perfect, but we live in the beautiful Coto de Caza, Orange County and it is everything dreams are made of and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. P.S. - If you are waiting to be added as a friend on my Facebook page, I'm sorry! It won't allow me to add more people. Please go instead to my Facebook Fan Page, where I post the same updates as on my friends page, and my Duzoxin Facebook page. Thank you.
Had a very productive day yesterday working on my upcoming TV commercial for Duzoxin. It's going to appear on national and regional levels on prime time on Bravo, Lifetime, E! Entertainment and about half a dozen other major networks. Amanda from the St. Regis was wonderful as usual and made sure everyone was well taken care of. It is such a beautiful venue and I love any excuse to go to parties or stay over.
I want to thank Michael Costello for the beautiful gown that you will see me wearing (you can get a sneak peak in these photos or the slideshow above), and Victor for The Living Room Salon and Art Gallery for being there to do my hair again. I've been working him overtime lately at all these events. And of course Jeanne my wonderful makeup artist. My friend Ben Medina came along and ended up being "the driver" of the beautiful Duzoxin Rolls-Royce Phantom, and I had a hot bodyguard who was incredibly big. Jennifer Evans ended up playing the Defy Magazine hostess asking me interview questions with a microphone. She's an old friend of the family who's daughters Angela and Jessica grew up with Kara and went to cheer together.
We had a great group of people who participated as extras. Kimarie, Shannon, all the ladies, I loved meeting all of you, especially the two adorable little girls who came along! Thank you all for coming and I hope you all get to see yourselves in the commercial when it comes out. Check in on DuzoxinTV.com for releases of the behind-the-scenes web video (Dominique Mainon will post it up when done) and for news and samples of the TV commercial in the next 2-3 weeks.
Thank you also to everyone who has been supporting Duzoxin and supporting my work by ordering and trying it out (especially through my page!). It's a great product that I have used and been involved with before and now I'm coming back to work with them and I'm sure you'll be seeing a lot of changes with me in the next weeks and months. And by the way, it is on special right now for the holidays and upcoming weight loss season - you get two bottles for the price of one - and even that is marked down by $20 to just $39.95 for a 60-day supply.
Dominique has been struggling with breast cancer and last year Tammy Knickerbocker held a fundraiser which I hosted to help her gain money for her surgery and medical needs. Mark Eades from the OC Register covered it. Fortunately she is doing better now, but struggling to catch up economically after having been unable to do camera work or lift things for a long time. I hope her book sales will help her catch up.
On top of that, if you love movies and pictures of sexy femme fatales like Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Barbara Stanwyck, Brigitte Bardot, Maria Felix, Elizabeth Taylor, Anita Ekberg, etc, this book is jam-packed with pictures. It even has modern lethal ladies like Salma Hayek, Gong Li, Angelina Jolie, and of course Sharon Stone....
See the following bulletin and follow instructions if you want to be in a TV commercial with me this Saturday, November 21st, afternoon and partial evening in Dana Point. Here is the info -

We need bright, outgoing and men and women 21 and over for a day shoot towards end of November. Acting ability of any kind if definitely a plus. Shoot will be on a weekend at a location in South Orange County. More details will be provided to those interested. HUNTINGTON BEACH - A new jewelry store opened Thursday night on Main Street, and the store's launch helped to benefit a new foundation created by Tammy Knickerbocker, a former cast member of "The Real Housewives of Orange County."
Island Cowgirl gave a portion of it opening-night shopping proceeds to Knickerbocker's group, Housewives for Housewives, which helps homemakers develop business skills and work toward financial independence.
There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Chamber of Commerce and some of the stars of the reality TV show....
What a day it was on Friday! I had an all-day photo shoot for Duzoxin, the company I am now working with. I'm excited to be moving forward with their new ad campaign which will also include a TV commercial (which 30 fans can appear in also. So check out the Duzoxin Facebook Fan page for details). I had my hair curled by Victor from The Living Room Salon and Art Gallery and my makeup was done by Jeanne Romano.
I wore a Cavalli dress (the leopard one) for the main part of the shoot. The photographer was Lyle Okihara and you may see him on one of the upcoming episodes of The Real Housewives of Orange County because he was the one who shot pictures of Tamra Barney also, under the direction of Tammy Knickerbocker. I was lucky in my shoot because Duzoxin provided the ultimate luxury prop to pose with - a black Rolls-Royce Phantom! The company will be releasing some of those soon. It was kind of like my old ZZTOP days getting in and out of a car so many times! The photos came out BEAUTIFUL though. I can't wait to be able to post them. It was a really fun shoot. Thankfully my friends Trevor and Keith came along and helped out and gave moral support.
When Shane arrived, they started goofing off and I think as soon as our art director/videographer Dominique is done editing the video you'll see what was going on. He really needed some good shots, but we got more that. I'm glad we have some of us together. I can only post a couple right now, but Duzoxin may show them all in the next couple days on my social page.
We had a wonderful time at the St. Regis last night afterwards. Ben Medina, Keith and Trevor came, and my friend Rebecca Voss and her cousin and Quinn. They even made a special martini named in my honor - the "Jubilant Jeana". It was pretty tasty. More to come soon...
Got picked up in a limo this morning for a nice little jaunt out to Murrieta today to shoot a couple segments for the Southern California Life Morning News. Staella Gianakakos was our beautiful host and we talked in depth about The Real Housewives of Orange County, what I am doing next (which I won't reveal in full here but it's pretty exciting), my work back with Duzoxin which I am very happy about and a discussion with Dr. Grant Stevens of Marina Plastic Surgery about Smooth Shapes. These are some pictures from the studio:
Tomorrow I am visiting one of my favorite hair stylists, Victor Paul of The Living Room Salon and Art Gallery to get hair and makeup done for my afternoon photo and video shoot with DuzoxinTV. The salon is just an amazing place, like no other, full of art and interesting pieces. It was converted from an old automobile glass repair warehouse. We'll be shooting some video there perhaps, so maybe we'll be able to post some of it (and maybe me modeling too...)
Hey everyone, there will soon be a bulletin from DuzoxinTV about an upcoming TV commercial they are shooting with me in the next couple of weeks. They are looking for 30 extras to appear in the commercial. It will be shot in South Orange County area, so you must be local or in the area at the time of shooting. I'm not exactly sure about the rest of the details of casting. I know they need men and women both.
If you are interested in participating, then become a fan of Duzoxin on Facebook and there will be a bulletin posted there in time for the next episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County tomorrow. You'll have to move fast though, because shooting is very soon, so they may choose cast by as early as this weekend even, so check the Duzoxin Fan page for instructions on how to apply. (Do not contact me direct about this, it must be through the company).
It's a fun mother and daughter blog. Kara and I should do something like this. Kara grew up with Angela and her sister Jessica, so it's fun reading about their adventures. They used to go to cheer together.
And have you heard of this new barefoot running craze? They talk about it here:
If you are trying to get into shape for the holiday season, check out this great holiday special. I use Duzoxin and LOVE it! There is a full money-back guarantee if you don't like it, so you have nothing to lose. Visit DuzoxinTV.com/Jeana
I've seen my special preview of next week's episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County and it is a little bit shocking! But not in any way you might imagine. You'll see on Thursday.
Tomorrow a limo picks us up to shoot a news show most of the day and on Thursday Night at the St. Regis in Dana Point there is a viewing for The Real Housewives of OC in the lobby. So join me for OC martinis and laughs. The are doing it every Thursday this season, and the Housewives are coming! I may have some free gift bags of Duzoxin left to give away also...
After being in the top 3% of Realtors worldwide for years, the transition to my salary being cut two-thirds hurt! My expenses and payments on the big house were over $20,000. Washington Mutual/Chase helped me immensely getting my loan modified on my main house; GMAC worked with Shane and was also great to work with. My friends with the smaller banks lost their homes. It pays to stay with the big boys. There needs to be more regulation on overdraft fees. College kids live close to the line all the time and a 7-dollar sushi roll can cost 35 in overdraft fees. Those lessons kids can do without learning! Most of my friends are in the same situation so we have movie nights and BBQs at my house. We will some day laugh at all this I hope.
Everyone thinks something awful happened between Vicki and I. I was sad when I saw that Vicki had said I was toxic on the premiere. I can’t imagine what would have caused her to say that. I hope next week explains why she would say something so mean. When time is valuable, you have to focus on what makes you feel good and what makes you money. I really needed support mentally; I have never been through a depression before. My savior was Rebecca and Tom Ferry my business coach. Rebecca Voss got me out of the house and Christina Cody and John Ellis got me working out. I am taking my Duzoxin again, all the bad economy and divorce depression, really put some pounds on me as you can see. But I am back on track and ready to work it off before the holidays hit. I love the product so much.
Tom Ferry got me a book agent and a ghostwriter to write a book about my life. It took about three months to shake out of my funk.I felt I was always there for Vicki, through thick and thin and she wasn’t there for me.
Dinner at St. Regis was the first time I had seen the girls in months, and I was upset that Lynne’s beautiful night was spoiled. Tamra and Gretchen both have legitimate beef with each other, but it is time to grow up and move on. Tamra may have started it months ago, but they are both are guilty of taking there troubles with each other to the blogs.
